Our happy holiday season has arrived — and get this — there are only 19 days until Christmas!

Last weekend the community enjoyed variety of activities — from many hobby and craft fairs to, of course, the Lassen County Chamber of Commerce’s always spectacular Magical County Christmas event in Uptown Susanville. As we count down the days until Christmas, the party’s not over yet by a long shot.

Here’s a great way to kick off your local shopping spree — the Santa’s Sleigh Days promotion sponsored by the Lassen County Times and 20 local businesses offers residents a great way to win cash and prizes while shopping locally.

The promotion begins today, and continues through Saturday, Dec. 10, and along the way local shoppers have a chance to win a share of more than $5,000 in cash and prizes.

Shoppers at each of the 20 participating business enter to participate in a drawing, and each store will draw five winners on Tuesday, Dec. 13 who will then return to the store to pick up a Scratch ‘N’ Win game card good for a prize from one of the participating merchants. Every single one of those Scratch ‘N’ Win cards is a winner.

The more stores shoppers visit, the more entries they can make and the more chances they have to one of each store’s five Scratch ‘N’ Win cards. Best of all, participants also can take advantage of the many value-added specials our local businesses have put together just for you, the local shopper.

This year’s Scratch ‘N’ Win prizes include a Hamilton Beach food processor from Billington Ace Hardware and $50 store gift certificates from Sears, Petmate dog kennel from Treats Natural Pet Marketplace, a complete car tune-up from Susanville Auto Center, a DeWalt portable air compressor from Napa Sierra Auto Parts, a $50 store gift certificate from Sierra Jewelry, a 500 watt convect air electric heater from Lassen Municipal Utility District, a Sedona coat rack from Zaengles, a beautiful gift basket from Chick-A-Dee’s and a complete New Year’s Eve room and show package from the Diamond Mountain Casino.

And there are just too many other prizes offered by local business to list, and you won’t want to miss the special promotion on Friday, Dec. 9 when participating sponsors offer free complementary appetizers while supplies last.

Yes, oh yes, Santa’s Sleigh Days may be the best way for local residents to begin their Christmas shopping adventure.

But you also won’t want to miss a host of local events planned between now and Christmas, including the wreath making and craft classes at Every Bloomin’ Thing (Wednesday, Dec. 7, Tuesday, Dec. 13, Wednesday, Dec. 14 and Saturday, Dec. 17), the LHS Christmas Concert (Thursday, Dec. 8), the Susanville City Kickettes Christmas Extraordinaire (Friday, Dec. 9 and Saturday, Dec. 10), The Friends in Art Show and Sale (Friday, Dec. 9 and Saturday, Dec. 10) and the Susanville Choral Society’s caroling event at Artisan Coffee in Janesville (Saturday, Dec. 10), the Christmas Coloring Contest sponsored by Susanville Auto Center (Saturday, Dec. 10), The Festival of Lights at the Lassen County Fairgrounds (many nights between Tuesday, Dec. 6 through Sunday, Dec. 25), the Senior Christmas Lights Tour (Thursday, Dec. 15), the Susanville Symphony Society’s Christmas in Susanville concerts (Friday, Dec. 16 and Saturday, Dec. 17).

It’s not too early to say, Merry Christmas, everybody!
